HMG volunteers had a beautiful autumn day picking up trash along the Cascade Lakes in the Adirondacks. During thisĀ annual autumn clean-up, they enjoyed the views of the mountains, fresh air and admired the historic hand-laid boulder retaining walls along Route 73.

New York's upcoming State Energy Plan may turn back the clock on our climate progress. But our voices could prevent a dangerous backslide. Remember, clean air isn't a dream -- it's a decision. Tell Governor Hochul: We need a strong State Energy Plan!
Dear Friend,

Back when the landmark Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act was passed in 2019, it seemed like New York was making meaningful strides forward. Other states looked to New York as an example of how to hold polluters accountable, and we were seeing real change. Hospital visits from pollution were on the decline and our skies were clearing up. But now, it's looking like New York might be turning back the clock.

Right now, New York State is developing its first State Energy Plan in 10 years, and deciding what our future is going to look like. Although the last plan was bold and forward-thinking, this version could change the trajectory of our climate goals for the worse.
To prevent New York from backsliding, we need to be louder than ever.

Here's the good news: Gov. Hochul and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority are looking for public feedback on the new plan.

So if you have just a few seconds to spare, it would be wonderful if you could tell them how much clean air and a strong State Energy Plan matter to you.
Let's build together toward a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient New York.
For a future we can look forward to,

The Sierra Club Hudson Mohawk Group was founded in 1974 and has been dedicated to preserving, protecting and helping our members enjoy nature. Our territory covers the fourteen county area of the Capital District of New York State, centered in Albany-the Capitol of New York State. The Hudson-Mohawk Group, consisting of over 3,200 members is a subset of the Sierra Club Atlantic Chapter which is the statewide organization, also located in Albany. We are all organized under the National Sierra Club which is headquartered in Oakland, CA.

We have many conservation issues in which we are directly involved and others in which we play a supporting role. This provides our members with many volunteer opportunities for involvement in one way or another. This includes such actions as communicating with lawmakers about proposed legislation, contacting and educating other Sierra Club members about activities and getting involved at the ground level to protect natural areas such as forests, wetlands and bodies of water.

We update this site continually to accommodate our many members, keep you informed and hopefully get you involved in our activities to Explore, Enjoy and Protect the Planet!
